MOSCOW, February 15 (RIA Novosti) - The International Biathlon Union's appeals panel returned Sunday the gold medal to Norway's Ole Einar Bjorndalen following the results of a 12.5 km men's pursuit race at the World Cup in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Russia's Maxim Chudov who was 47.1 seconds behind Bjorndalen was earlier declared the winner of the race after a one-minute penalty was added to the Norwegian legend's finish time.

The panel court passed its decision after a protest was filed by seven countries, including Norway.

The panel's decision means that Bjorndalen has won the 12.5 km pursuit race while the silver medal will go to Chudov (47.1 seconds behind the winner) and the bronze to Norway's Alexander Os (52.8 seconds behind the winner).
