Russia's M2 money supply up 2% in December

MOSCOW, February 3 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's M2 money supply stood at 13.49 trillion rubles ($373 billion) as of January 1, up 2% month-on-month, the Central Bank of Russia (CBR) said on Tuesday.

M2 money supply in the Central Bank's broad definition includes total cash in circulation (outside banks) and balances in the domestic currency on accounts of resident non-financial organizations and individuals.

The monetary base was 13.272 trillion rubles ($366.6 billion), up 1.7% as of January 1, compared with the beginning of last year.

Central Bank First Deputy Chairman Alexei Ulyukayev said earlier the money supply is expected to grow by 10% in 2009.

Russia's M2 money supply demonstrated steady growth of 47.5% in 2007.
