BEIJING, January 25 (RIA Novosti) - A 29-year-old man from southwest China's Guizhou province has been diagnosed with the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu, the sixth human case of the virus in China this year, Xinhua reported Sunday.

The man, identified as Zhou, was hospitalized on January 15 and is still in serious condition, Xinhua said.

"Those who had close contact with the patient are under medical observation," the news agency said. None of them has developed bird flu symptoms so far.

China has reported that its first bird flu death this year occurred on January 5, when a 19-year-old woman from Beijing was diagnosed with the deadly virus and died in hospital.

A total of four patients have died from the deadly bird flu virus in China since the start of this year.

Chinese doctors have managed to save the life of a 2-year-old girl, also infected with the deadly H5N1 strain. The child is currently in hospital but her condition is not viewed as critical.
