NOVOSIBIRSK, January 10 (RIA Novosti) - Rescuers are searching for a helicopter that went missing in southern Siberia on Friday, a spokesman for a rescue service in the Republic of Altai said on Saturday.

Contact with the Mi-8 following the Chemal - Kosh-Agach route was lost on Friday around 11:00 a.m. Moscow time. There were eight passengers and three crew members on board the helicopter owned by Gazpromavia, an airline possessed by energy giant Gazprom.

The helicopter went missing in a mountainous region, which is making the search operation particularly difficult.

The search operation, which started on Friday, involves two helicopters and four planes.
