GAZA, January 1 (RIA Novosti) - The husband of a Russian national living in the Gaza Strip has become one of the latest victims to be killed by an Israeli airstrike on the Palestinian enclave, local health officials said on Thursday.

Ihab al-Madhoun, 33, a doctor and father of four, who studied medicine in Russia, was killed along with a paramedic as they arrived at the scene of an Israeli airstrike. The ambulance crew was hit by a second Israeli missile.

The ambulance driver sustained serious injuries and is currently in a critically condition, the Mezan Centre for Human Rights in Gaza reported.

Israel began a massive air offensive on Gaza on Saturday in response to rocket and mortar fire by militants on southern Israel which have left four Israelis dead.

Tel Aviv has called it "an all-out war" against Hamas who controls Gaza. Some 403 Palestinians have been killed in the airstrikes, with over 2,000 injured.

Al-Madhoun's wife Rushana from Russia, recently applied to be evacuated back to Russia along with some of the other 250 Russian nationals living in the enclave, many of who are wives and children of Palestinians who studied at Russian universities.

Following the tragic death of her husband, Rushana will now be forced to stay in Gaza, as her husband's relatives have banned her from taking her children out of the region, a friend of the Russian woman said.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev instructed the Foreign Ministry to provide aid to Russians in Gaza and evacuate them if necessary amid Israel's air offensive on the region.

Evacuation coordinator on the Palestinian side, Yelena Alyan, told RIA Novosti on Monday that about 200 Russian and CIS nationals have applied to be evacuated from Gaza. The evacuation plan is being prepared by Russian diplomats.

The evacuation lists contain 122 Russians, four Belarusians, 38 Ukrainians, 30 Moldovans and five Kazakhs.
