"On December 31, at the request of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation, Spain's competent bodies have extradited Russian citizen Murat Gasayev to Russia," Marina Gridneva said.
Gasayev, 32, is accused of involvement in an armed militant group, committing terrorist acts, murder, and illegal arms sales in Russia.
He was placed by Russia on the international wanted list on September 27, 2006, and arrested on December 1 the same year by Spanish police in the country's eastern region of Valencia.
Russian investigators say they have established that in 2003-2004 Gasayev was involved in a criminal armed gang.
"Being an active member of the gang, Gasayev on numerous occasions participated in terrorist acts and attacks on government officials, law-enforcement bodies and troops in the North Caucasus region of the Russian Federation," Gridneva said.
