ATHENS, December 13 (RIA Novosti) - Several hundred people dressed in white held a peaceful rally in central Athens on Saturday to commemorate the teenager killed by police a week ago, Greek television reported.

Similar demonstrations were reported to have taken place elsewhere in the country after seven days of violent protests staged by students and anarchists in the capital and other cities following last Saturday's shooting of 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos.

Greece's worst riots in decades left a trail of destruction as youths looted shops and set fire to hundreds of cars, banks and businesses.

The police officer accused of killing the boy is in custody, along with a colleague charged as an accomplice, pending trial.

Athens was calm on Saturday after anarchists attacked five banks and an office of the ruling party overnight, as well as setting fire to two cars. Hundreds of people have been arrested during the past week's unrest.
