KIEV, November 26 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine's TV and radio broadcasting authority has threatened to ban six more Russian TV channels from broadcasting in the country due to legal violations, the UNIAN news agency said on Wednesday.

As of November 1, the regulator banned several foreign channels from broadcasting in Ukraine, including RTR-Planeta, RenTV and TVTs International. Russia's Channel 1 was allowed to continue broadcasts on the condition that it take action to meet Ukrainian regulations.

"The national council considered at a meeting on Wednesday the non-compliance with Ukrainian laws of broadcasts by NTV World, the Strashnoe TV, the Smeshnoe TV, Russian Illusion, RBC-TV, Nashe Kino and Comedia TV," the council said in a statement.

Ukraine's objections relate mainly to advertising aired by the channels, the statement said.

The Ukrainian distributors of the listed channels have been ordered to bring the broadcasts in line with Ukrainian laws. If they fail to do so, broadcasts will be terminated.

Language has been a contentious issue in relations between Russia and Ukraine, where some political groups have opposed the "Russification" of the country.

Russian is still widely spoken in Ukraine, especially in the east, the Crimea and the capital. Many people have never learnt to speak Ukrainian.
