The painting, 'Au bord de la mer,' which had a pre-sale estimate of $150,000-$230,000, was sold in the company's auction rooms in New Bond Street, London on Monday evening. A seascape attributed to the famous Russian artist Ivan Aivazovsky, 'In stormy waters,' was sold for the same price.
Natalia Goncharova's 'Winter: the wood gatherer' was the most expensive lot of the evening, selling for $230,000.
At its Russian sales, Bonhams sold almost 250 lots of pictures and works of art worth some $7.7 billion in total. The Russian sales featured art dated from the 19th century, including paintings by Alexei Harlamoff and Vladimir Makovsky, avant-garde works by Alexandra Exter, Natalia Goncharova, Marianna Verevkina and Alexander Archipenko, and post-war art by Oleg Tselkov, Vladimir Nemukhin, Shimon Okshteyn, Sergei Volkov and Konstantin Zvezdochetov.
The auction also featured a number of Imperial treasures by Faberge, including a huge silver beer mug, which went under the hammer for almost $74,000.
