Russia will make all efforts to settle unresolved problems with Japan, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Sunday.
LIMA, November 23 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will make all efforts to settle unresolved problems with Japan, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Sunday.

Medvedev met with Japan's Prime Minister Taro Aso in the Peruvian capital as part of a two-day summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

"We'll make all efforts for that. There are no unresolved problems," Medvedev said.

Russia and Japan have yet to sign a formal peace treaty due to their territorial dispute over the South Kuril Islands, former Japanese territory annexed by the Soviet Union after World War II.

The absence of a peace treaty between the two countries has restricted trade and economic relations between Russia and Japan.

In turn, the Japanese premier said that the territorial dispute between the two countries was a destabilizing factor in the region.
