Russia's Aeroflot reports 5.6% net profit growth over 9 months

MOSCOW, November 17 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's flagship air carrier Aeroflot said on Monday its net profit calculated to Russian Accounting Standards grew 5.6%, year-on-year, in January-September 2008 to 6.14 billion rubles ($227 million).

Aeroflot's net profit in the reporting period was higher than the company's expected 5.16 billion rubles ($191 million).

Aeroflot, which carries more than 8 million passengers annually and a further 2 million on its subsidiaries, said its revenue increased 29.6% in January-September 2008 from the same period last year to 72.33 billion rubles ($2.7 billion) and gross profit climbed 14.6% to 12.79 billion rubles ($474 million).

Aeroflot, which flies to 96 destinations in 49 countries, accounts for 51% of Russia's international air traffic and 12% of domestic flights.
