Russia move up to eighth in FIFA rankings

The Russian national side has risen one place to eighth in the latest FIFA rankings, published on the website of international soccer's governing body on Wednesday.
MOSCOW, November 12 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian national side has risen one place to eighth in the latest FIFA rankings, published on the website of international soccer's governing body on Wednesday.

Spain remain top of the rankings, while Germany rise to second. European countries occupy the first four places, with Brazil in fifth and Argentina in sixth the only non-European representatives in the top 10.

The biggest climb up the rankings was made by Jamaica, who beat Mexico and Honduras in World Cup qualifiers to leap from 116th to 83rd place.

Russia have lost 2-1 in Dortmund to Germany and beaten Finland 3-0 at home in World Cup 2010 qualifiers since the last ratings were announced in October. The side is currently in second place in World Cup qualifying Group 4. Each group winner earns an automatic place at the finals in South Africa, while the best eight second-placed teams will play off against each other for the remaining four spots.
