MOSCOW, October 27 (RIA Novosti) - CSKA Moscow beat Dynamo Moscow 3-1 away from home on Monday evening to move back within seven points of leaders Rubin FC.

CSKA and Dynamo were in 2nd and 3rd places respectively before the start of the match. A Dynamo win would have gone some way to securing the side a Champions League place for next season, as well as meaning that Kazan-based Rubin FC only needed to win their November 2 game against Moscow Region club Saturn to claim their first ever title.

However, CSKA never looked back after opening the scoring in the seventh minute, captain and Russian international Sergei Ignashevich hammering a free-kick against a Dynamo wall, and then lashing home the rebound.

Brazilian striker Vagner Love put CSKA further ahead after the break with his 13th goal of the season. When Yuri Zhirkov converted from an Alan Dzagoyev pass in the 70th minute, Dynamo fans could have been forgiven for thinking that a real rout was on the cards.

Dynamo had a number of one-on-one chances during the game, but were unable to find the net until the dying minutes, when Australian defender Luke Wilkshire finally beat CSKA's Igor Akinfeev.

The win was CSKA's seventh league victory in a row, and the former Red Army side will be hoping that the title race is still alive when Rubin come to Moscow on November 16 in the season's penultimate round of games.

Despite CSKA's win, as things stand, Rubin are still overwhelming favorites to lift the title.

In the 2009/10 season, for the first time, the top three teams in the Russian Premier League will qualify for the Champions League. The top two clubs will go into the group stages, with the third-placed team starting in the second qualifying round. The fourth- and fifth-placed teams will enter the UEFA Cup, while the bottom two sides are relegated.
