Investment in Khabarovsk Territory at $1.7 bln in Jan.-Sept

MOSCOW, October 22 (RIA Novosti) - The governor of Russia's Far East Khabarovsk Territory said on Wednesday that foreign investment in the region totaled $1.7 billion in January-September 2008,

"Last year, the total amount of investment was 55 billion rubles ($2 billion), and in the first nine months of 2008 it reached 45 billion rubles [$1.7 billion]," Viktor Ishayev said.

He called on foreign investors to take part in over 300 major projects that are currently being planned or are already underway in the Khabarovsk Territory, including a large transport hub in the city of Khabarovsk, a gas pipeline connecting Sakhalin, Khabarovsk and Vladivostok, and a tidal power plant able to export electricity to northeast Asian countries.

The Khabarovsk Territory celebrates its 70th anniversary this week.
