LONDON, October 18 (RIA Novosti) - A British man who murdered his wife after she changed her status on the social networking website Facebook to "single" has been given a life sentence, British media reported.

In February, long-distance truck driver Wayne Forrester, 34, split up with his wife Emma and moved out, and a few days later noticed the change on her Facebook profile.

He returned to their home in New Addington, south London, and stabbed his wife to death while she was asleep. A meat cleaver and a kitchen knife were found at the crime scene.

Neighbors called the police, and Forrester was arrested. He confessed to the crime, saying he had been under the influence of cocaine.

He told police that he felt "humiliated" and "devastated" to see his spouse, who he had lived with for 15 years, change her profile status to "single" just four days after the split-up.

The judge told him: "You committed a terrible act. There is no possible excuse or justification."
