Russian antitrust service halts case against Surgutneftegaz

MOSCOW, September 19 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Antimonopoly Service has stopped proceedings against oil company Surgutneftegaz because competition violation has not been confirmed, the service said Friday.

"During the case consideration, the Federal Antimonopoly Service established that Surgutneftegaz does not hold a dominating position on the wholesale market of oil products in Russia either independently or jointly with other big vertically integrated oil companies," the service said.

The service said Surgutneftegaz's share of the wholesale market for automobile gasoline, aviation kerosene, diesel fuel and fuel oil was less than 8%.

The antitrust service said in July it could ban indirect deals between aviation companies and fuel suppliers if an investigation confirmed price collusion between the five largest oil companies.

LUKoil, Gazprom Neft, TNK-BP Holding, Rosneft and Surgutneftegaz were accused of price fixing, in violation of competition laws.

Earlier in July, the service launched proceedings against the companies over high prices for aviation and diesel fuel.

The antimonopoly service earlier accused the companies of abusing their dominant market positions through "establishing a monopolistically high price on wholesale markets of aviation kerosene and diesel fuel in the Russian Federation."
