TSKHINVALI, August 27 (RIA Novosti) - South Ossetia has transferred 85 captives to Georgia and received 13 prisoners in return, the rebel republic's human rights envoy said Wednesday.

"We have documentary evidence that Georgia is keeping a large number of South Ossetians captive, including injured people," David Sanakoyev said.

He refused to disclose the exact number of captives, saying this could "harm the exchange of captives."

South Ossetian authorities said last week 2,100 civilians had been killed in Georgia's August 8 attack on the republic, although the confirmed death toll is much lower.

Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev signed decrees on Tuesday to recognize independence of South Ossetia and another separatist Georgian republic, Abkhazia.
