Russian Railways posts 15% revenue growth to $23 bln in 1H08

MOSCOW, August 6 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Railways said Wednesday its revenues calculated to Russian Accounting Standards increased 12.8%, year-on-year, in January-June to 529.3 billion rubles ($22.5 billion).

The country's rail monopoly, which carries more than 1.3 billion passengers and 1.3 billion metric tons of cargo a year, said its revenues increased in the reporting period as freight carriage grew 2.9% to 677.6 million metric tons.

Russian Railways, which estimates that it accounts for over 3.6% of Russia's GDP and handles about 80% of all transportation in the country, expects its revenues to top 1 trillion rubles ($42.5 billion) in 2008.
