GAZA, August 2 (RIA Novosti) - At least two Hamas security officers were killed and 30 other people were wounded on Saturday in fighting between the radical Islamist faction and a pro-Fatah clan in the Gaza Strip, a spokesman for Hamas interior ministry said.

Hamas security forces have earlier launched an operation against the members of the Hilles clan affiliated with the rival Fatah faction who the Islamist group believes were behind a series of bombings in the territory last week including one that killed five Hamas members and a girl.

Hamas blamed the attacks on Fatah, which in turn denied responsibility.

"Members of this family [Hilles] have been attacking, abducting and even

killing people," said Ehab al-Ghsain. "We must put an end to their attacks on innocent

citizens."

The media reports earlier said the Hamas authorities in Gaza had carried out searches of more than 40 buildings containing Fatah offices last Saturday, arresting over 200 Fatah activists.

Palestinian Fatah forces on Monday arrested at least 50 Hamas members throughout the West Bank in a tit-for-tat retaliation.

The Gaza Strip has been controlled by Hamas since June last year, leaving Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who leads Fatah, in charge of only the West Bank. The two main Palestinian factions have been bitterly divided since then.
