Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert promised on Wednesday to resign in September, after his Kadima party chooses a new leader.
TEL AVIV, July 30 (RIA Novosti) - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert promised on Wednesday to resign in September, after his Kadima party chooses a new leader.

"I have decided not to run in the [Kadima] primaries, nor will I interfere in the elections," Olmert said.

His party's internal elections have been scheduled for September 17. Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Minister of Transportation and Road Safety Shaul Mofaz are considered the favorites to take over the party leadership.

The ruling party decided to hold the elections after an investigation was launched against Olmert on suspicion that he took bribes from an American businessman and misused funds allocated for official activities. Olmert has denied the charges.
