TIRASPOL, July 10 (RIA Novosti) - A rotation of Russian peacekeepers in the conflict zone of Moldova's breakaway republic of Transdnestr will be conducted between July 17 and 24, the peacekeepers' commander said on Thursday.

Colonel Anatoly Zverev added that all the parties involved had been informed about the planned rotation in the region.

Transdnestr declared independence from Moldova in 1990. An armed conflict broke out with Moldova in 1992 that led to the strengthening of its state of de facto independence.

According to the 1992 agreement on the principles of peace settlement, the security zone is patrolled by peacekeeping contingents from Russia, Moldova and Transdnestr, and a group of Ukrainian military observers.

Transdnestr, along with Georgia's two self-proclaimed republics, South Ossetia and Abkhazia, have stepped up their drive for self-rule since Kosovo's declaration of independence in mid-February, requesting that Russia, the UN and other organizations recognize their sovereignty.
