BEIJING, June 29 (RIA Novosti) - China's authorities and representatives of Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, will resume talks in early July, the news agency Xinhua reported on Sunday.

The last meeting between Chinese officials and the Dalai Lama's representatives was held in early May in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen. Further discussions scheduled to start in June were postponed after a powerful earthquake devastated China's southwest province of Sichuan on May 12, killing around 70,000.

Chinese authorities blame the Dalai Lama who fled Tibet in 1959 following a failed uprising against Chinese rule for orchestrating violence in Tibet in March and protests that marred the Olympic torch relay in several countries.

"Our door is always open for the dialog with the Dalai Lama" (We) hope that the Dalai Lama would treasure this opportunity and give positive response to the requirements of the central authorities," Xinhua quoted a government spokesman as saying.

The Dalai Lama has repeatedly said he seeks autonomy for Tibet rather than independence from China.
