KHANTY-MANSIISK, June 28 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev accepted on Saturday an invitation from his Finnish counterpart Tarja Halonen to visit Finland.

President Medvedev and his counterparts from Finland, Hungary and Estonia attended on Saturday the opening ceremony of the fifth world congress of Finno-Ugric peoples in West Siberian city of Khanty-Mansiisk.

"We will be very glad to see you in Finland," Halonen told Medvedev at the opening ceremony of the congress.

Medvedev thanked the Finnish president adding that, "Although Finland is a very small country, it is well-known to me. I visited your country previously, but I have not been there in my new capacity [of the president] and that is why I will be very glad to come on a visit."

Medvedev won the March 2 presidential elections in Russia with a landslide victory and was sworn in on May 7.
