This year, the forum will also see a presentation on the Oil exchange, which is due to open in St. Petersburg, the governor added.
At the forum, the winner of the construction for the Western High Speed Diameter (WHSD), a highway linking St. Petersburg with Scandinavia, will be chosen as well.
The governor said the St. Petersburg economic forum has become a major event not only for Russia, but also worldwide. "The interest in the St. Petersburg forum has increased, that unfortunately we cannot accept all the applications," Matviyenko added.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, attended by President Dmitry Medvedev, brings together world leaders to discuss key economic issues facing Russia and the international community.
Traditional participants include presidents, prime ministers, heads of government and ministers from a number of countries, as well as the international business elite and chief editors from leading global media publications.
"This year his [Medvedev's] speech on Russia's economic platform for the coming years will definitely be of great interest to the world. It is an attracting aspect - the meetings between the president and foreign business leaders - when frank discussion about Russia and the international economic processes is held in a narrow format," the governor said.
Matviyenko said that apart from the official program, the forum is a perfect space for informal dialogue between business leaders.
