MOSCOW, May 21 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Wednesday he will hold one-on-one talks with his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy during the G8 summit in Japan in July.

"This year we will have the opportunity to meet, first in Hokkaido [at the G8 summit]. We will meet and discuss key issues," Medvedev told French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, who is currently in Moscow.

Medvedev said he will also meet with Sarkozy at the Russia-EU summit in France in November. France will hold the EU presidency during the second half of this year.

The Russian president said he was satisfied with the development of bilateral relations in both economic and humanitarian areas.

He also said his recent decision to appoint a former ambassador to France, Alexander Avdeyev, as culture minister testified to the importance of ties with the country.

Medvedev, 43, was inaugurated as Russia's third president two weeks ago, taking over from Vladimir Putin, who was approved as prime minister by parliament on May 8.
