WASHINGTON, May 19 (RIA Novosti) - A trailer loaded with 20,000 pounds of chocolate cookies overturned in Illinois in the early hours of Monday, forcing police to close several lanes of a highway, local media said.

The crash occurred at about 3:40 a.m. local time (08:40 GMT), some 50 miles southwest of Chicago, after the driver apparently lost control of his vehicle, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The driver was unhurt in the incident, but police were forced to shut down several eastbound lanes while the cookies, still sealed, were cleaned up, Brian Mahoney of the Illinois State Police said.

The lanes were reopened some two hours later.
