A suicide bomber blew himself up in a police station in the Musa Qala district of the southern Helmand province killing four civilians and injuring nine people including five police officers. An Interior Ministry spokesman said the attack targeted the local police chief, who was not injured in the blast.
The second explosion, which left four Afghan troops dead, occurred in the southeastern Paktika province, a Defense Ministry spokesman said.
According to NATO's representative in Kabul, terrorists have stepped up attacks in Afghanistan, particularly in southern and eastern tribal regions near the Pakistani border, since a peace agreement was reached between the Taliban and the Pakistani government. In April, terrorist attacks were more than 50% higher than in the same month of last year.
