BELGRADE, April 24 (RIA Novosti) - The construction of a 165-meter skyscraper set to be the tallest building in the Balkans has begun in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, local media announced Thursday.

Local company ENK Invest Group and four companies from Albania are financing the 400-million-euro ($630-million) project. The International Finance Corporation and Austria's Raiffeisenbank have invested 75 million euros ($118 million) and 15 million euros, ($24 million) respectively.

The building will cover 28.5 hectares and include 100 apartments, a trade center, a hotel and six stories of underground parking lots, as well as a 42-story office building.

Construction, set to last six years, will be carried out by a Croatian company. Up to 2,000 people are expected to work on the project.

Kosovo unilaterally declared its independence from Serbia in mid-February. It has been formally recognized by 37 countries including most EU states and the United States. Russia, China and some other countries refuse to recognize Kosovo.
