Russia says no charges against British CEO of investment fund

MOSCOW, April 3 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Interior Ministry denied on Thursday media reports saying charges had been brought against the head of Hermitage Capital Management, an investment fund specializing in Russian markets.

Russian business daily Kommersant reported earlier today that Russian law enforcement agencies had charged William Browder, a U.S.-born British national, with tax evasion and put him on a wanted list.

Ministry spokeswoman Angela Kastuyeva said: "Investigators have not filed charges against William Browder."

Browder was denied entry into Russia in November 2005, purportedly under a rule that bars foreigners who present a national security threat from entering the country.

The paper said investigators accused Browder of failing to pay over 4 billion rubles ($170 mln) in taxes.
