Moscow, March 23 (RIA Novosti) - A South Ossetian national and a peacekeeper were badly wounded after a bomb went off in their car, the information and press department of the breakaway republic said on Sunday.

The bomb, equivalent to 400 grams of TNT, went off on Sunday morning in the Znaursky district of South Ossetia, the department said, blaming the Georgian side for the accident.

According to the South Ossetian security service, the bomb, disguised as a household item, was passed over by a Georgian national to the men in the car at the Georgian-South Ossetian border and went off several minutes after that.

South Ossetia, a tiny territory with a population of less than 100,000, has been seeking international recognition of its de facto independence from Georgia since the breakup of the Soviet Union. However, Tbilisi considers the breakaway province to be part of its territory, and is only prepared to grant it broad autonomy.
