MOSCOW, March 22 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Foreign Ministry voiced concern on Saturday over clashes between militant groups in a Palestinian refugee camp in south Lebanon, and called on the country to prevent all-out conflict.

Fighters from Fatah and Islamist group Jund al-Sham began firing guns and rockets at each other on Friday in the middle of the crowded Ain al-Hilweh camp, which houses around 70,000 refugees.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said: "With the drawn-out political crisis in Lebanon, the clashes further complicate the situation."

The violence must not be allowed to escalate into "open confrontation with unpredictable results for Lebanon and the entire region," he said.

At least one Fatah guerilla was killed and several wounded in Friday's violence at the camp, located on the outskirts of the port of Sidon.

The violence was sparked by Fatah's arrest of a Jund al-Sham fighter, accused of attempting to kill a Fatah member.
