MOSCOW, March 11 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's parliamentary elections cost around 4.2 billion rubles ($176 million) last December, a top election official said on Tuesday.

"A total of 4.194 billion rubles ($176 million) was spent on the election," said Stanislav Vavilov, deputy chairman of Russia's Central Election Commission.

Vavilov said 3.96 billion rubles ($166.11 million), or 94% of all funds, was channeled into Russian regions, with over 3 billion rubles ($126 million) being spent on wages for the 828,000 election commission members and 333,000 assistants.

The financial report will be submitted to the country's Federal Assembly later on Tuesday.

A similar report on spending during the March 2 presidential polls will be prepared by June 8.

Russia held parliamentary polls on December 2, 2007.
