PRETORIA, March 10 (RIA Novosti) - Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov arrived in Pretoria, South Africa, on Monday for talks with the country's leaders.

Ivanov is set to meet with President Thabo Mbeki and Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka during his stay, and will visit the only Russian Orthodox church in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Cooperation between Russia and Africa's richest nation has been on the rise since President Vladimir Putin's visit to the country in 2006.

Russian mining companies are currently involved in projects to prospect and develop manganese deposits in the South African part of the Kalahari Desert. Other potential areas of cooperation include the construction of an aluminum plant in the country, and Russian investment in South African electric power generation.
