TBILISI, March 4 (RIA Novosti) - Georgia could withdraw its military contingent from Iraq this summer, State Minister for Euro-Atlantic Integration Giorgi Baramidze said on Tuesday.

"We are planning to withdraw military personnel from Iraq within a certain period. This could take place in the summer, though we are continuing to negotiate the issue with the United States," Baramidze said.

The minister said Georgia was also considering expanding participation in the peacekeeping effort in Afghanistan, adding that "negotiations are currently being held with the Netherlands, France and the United States."

Georgia's military contingent is the third largest foreign military deployment in Iraq and numbers 2,000 soldiers.
