Russia's agricultural production rises 3.3% y-o-y in 2007

MOSCOW, January 29 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's agricultural production increased 3.3% year-on-year in 2007, the country's top statistics body said on Tuesday.

"The output of all agricultural producers in 2007 is estimated at 2 trillion 17.21 billion rubles according to current prices," the Federal State Statistics Service said.

Calculated at the current exchange rate, the figure is $82 billion.

In 2006, Russia's agricultural gross output increased by 2.8% year-on-year.

The gross grain harvest in 2007 is estimated at 81.8 million metric tons, a 4% rise on 2006.

Agricultural organizations remain the main producers of grain and industrial crops. They accounted for 78.5 % of grain production in 2007, the level of the previous year. Farmsteads accounted for 89.2% of the total potato crops and 79.1% of vegetables.

Cattle stock was 21.3 million as of January 1, 2008, a 0.7% decline year-on-year.
