WARSAW, January 20 (RIA Novosti) - Former Czech President Vaclav Havel was hospitalized with a heart problem, the ex-president's adviser said on Sunday.

Jakub Hladic told reporters that Havel, 71, was admitted to hospital on Saturday with heart arrhythmia but expressed the hope that Havel's condition would improve.

Havel, an anti-communist dissident and playwright, was elected the president of Czechoslovakia in the bloodless 1989 Velvet Revolution, which put an end to decades of communist rule in the country.

Havel was elected president of the Czech Republic in 1993 after Czechoslovakia split into two parts and stayed in office until 2003.
