ANKARA, January 18 (RIA Novosti) - Turkish combat aircraft destroyed about 60 targets in the latest airstrike on Kurdish rebel positions in north Iraq, the general staff said on Friday.

The Turkish military conducted the cross-border airstrike against Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) separatists on January 15, the forth aerial attack since December last year.

The military said in a statement: "The airstrike targeted eight groups of [PKK] targets. Five command centers, two communications centers, 15 training centers, 18 shelters, two anti-aircraft batteries and four ammunition depots were destroyed."

The statement did not specify the losses suffered by the rebels. The military earlier said that over 175 Kurdish rebels were killed during three airstrikes in December.

In mid-October, Turkey's parliament sanctioned cross-border military operations against PKK separatists based in northern Iraq, following an earlier government request and despite opposition from Washington and Baghdad.

The PKK, labeled by the U.S., NATO and the EU as a terrorist organization, has been fighting for autonomy status in southeast Turkey for nearly 25 years. The conflict has so far claimed about 40,000 lives.
