Three Russians left in Medibank tennis tournament in Sydney

MOSCOW, January 9 (RIA Novosti) - Three Russian tennis players remain standing in the men and women's singles at the 2008 Medibank International tennis tournament in Sydney, Australia, which runs on January 6-12.

In the women's singles, with $600,000 of prize money up for grabs, Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova advanced on Wednesday to the semifinals after defeating Italy's Francesca Schiavone in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.

Kuznetsova will now play the winner of another quarterfinal encounter between the Czech Republic's Nicole Vaidisova and Serbia's Jelena Jankovic.

In the men's singles on Wednesday, Russia's Dmitry Tursunov advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating the Frenchman, Richard Gasquet, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. He will now face another French player, Sebastien Grosjean. In another men's singles quarterfinal match, Russia's Yevgeny Korolyov is set to play Fabrice Santoro from France.

The total prize money in the men's tournament is $465,000.
