MOSCOW, December 29 (RIA Novosti) - Russian customs officers seized a total of 895 kilograms (1,970 pounds) of heroin in 2007, the Federal Customs Service said on Saturday.
In total, over 1,700 kilograms (3,740 pounds) of drugs and psychotropic substances were seized, including over 130 kilograms of cocaine and 50 kilograms of cannabis, a spokesman said.
Over 17 metric tons of drug precursor chemicals were confiscated at the Russian customs border, the spokesman added.
Over 38,000 criminal cases have been launched against more than 23,000 drug offenders this year, including 619 foreigners and people without nationality. More than 300 people on the federal wanted list have also been detained.
