TOKYO, December 21 (RIA Novosti) - A fire that left two workers dead at Japan's biggest ethylene plant in Kashima near Tokyo has been put out, Japanese media said Friday.

The bodies of the two workers were discovered by rescuers as they began clearing rubble at the Mitsubishi chemical plant. Rescuers are continuing the search for two missing workers.

The company said 10 minutes before the fire started, workers had started to carry out repairs on one of the furnaces. Firefighters say the fire could have been caused by a leak of refrigeration fluid.

The plant was opened in 1992 and, according to the local fire service, five years ago the chemical works also suffered from a fire.
