The Perm Opera and Ballet Theater will perform new productions in Ireland and The Netherlands


PERM, December 4, RIA Novosti. - The Perm Opera and Ballet Theater will perform its new productions in Ireland and The Netherlands during a tour from December 4 to January 8, a spokesman for the Governor of the Perm Territory told RIA Novosti.

"The tour will begin at the Town Hall Theater in the Irish city of Galway, Europe's westernmost city. New productions of "Shopeniana" and "The Cavalry Halt" will be performed. During the course of the week, the productions will be performed six times," the spokesman said.

He said that the guest tour to Ireland was opening the new theater season. The first trip of the theater to Ireland was in 1997. After a short break, the ballet company of the theater and its dance school will perform its new production, "The Most Grandiose ‘Swan Lake' in the World" in The Netherlands on December 18.

"It will differ from the traditional production in its scale - in act one 48 ballerina swans will appear on stage, which is a record. No more than 36 ballerinas have ever appeared before," said the spokesman. Residents of Amsterdam can see the famous ballet at the stage of the Royal Theater. All in all 20 performances are planned. The theater will return to Perm on January 8.

A new production of "The Swan Lake" by Natalia Makarova, from the United States, has been on at the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater since 2005. The premiere of the one-act ballets "Chopiniana" ("Les Sylphides") and "The Cavalry Halt" took place in 2006, the spokesman said.

The Perm Opera and Ballet Theater was opened in 1872. In the years of the Second World War, its stage was used by the Leningrad Kirov Opera and Ballet Theater (Mariinsky Theater) which was evacuated to Perm. The Perm Theater received the name of Pyotr Tchaikovsky in 1965, and the title "Academic" in 1969.

Since 1973, the Perm Ballet has toured Austria, Italy, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Poland, Belgium, The Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Great Britain, Ireland, Spain and China.

The theater has also successfully performed in France, Cuba, Cambodia, Canada, Thailand, Egypt, Nicaragua, India and the United States.
