Spartak Moscow earn gritty draw in Prague UEFA tie

PRAGUE, November 30 (RIA Novosti) - Spartak Moscow held out for a 0-0 draw in Prague against Sparta on Thursday evening, a result which leaves the side in a prime position to progress to the UEFA Cup play off stages next spring.

After having defeated the German side Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 on November 8 in their opening Group E tie, Spartak were in high spirits for their trip to Prague.

It was Sparta who made much of the early running, however, and Spartak's Croatian goalkeeper, Pletikosa, was kept busy. Spartak also had their chances, with their Brazilian striker Welliton going close with a long range effort.

It was Pletikosa who was Spartak's savior though, leading Sparta's trainer, Michal Bilek, to say after the match that "Pletikosa denied us victory."

Spartak are in second place in the group, with four points. Their next match is at home against FC Zurich on December 6.

The first three teams in the group go through to the play off stages.
