TBILISI, November 22 (RIA Novosti) - Georgia's parliament gave their backing to Prime Minister Lado Gurgenidze in a vote of confidence on Thursday, and approved a new Cabinet.

Gurgenidze was nominated for the post of prime minister on November 16 after his predecessor, Zurab Nogaideli, resigned citing health problems, following six days of public protests that saw hundreds injured in clashes with police in the South Caucasus republic.

A total of 155 lawmakers in the 235-seat legislature voted to approve the new premier and leave all four state ministers in place. Eleven of 13 other ministers also kept their posts, including the foreign, defense and interior ministers.

Georgia will choose a new president in early presidential elections that President Mikheil Saakashvili set for January 5 following the protests against his presidency.
