MADRID, November 19 (RIA Novosti) - A 30-year-old Russian woman injured in a knife attack in the Spanish resort city of Alicante late on Sunday has died in intensive care, a hospital official said on Monday.

"The Russian woman died at midday (2:00 p.m. Moscow time, 11 a.m. GMT) on Monday in the intensive care unit of our hospital," the official said.

Earlier on Monday, police said the woman had been stabbed in the neck in the entrance to an apartment she was renting with her two year-old child. She was renting the apartment from another Russian national.

A police spokesman told RIA Novosti that a suspect in the murder, a Spanish national, was later detained in Alicante, adding that jealousy could have been behind the killing.

"According to our information, the detainee had had an affair with the victim," he said.

The spokesman also said police were prohibited from disclosing the name of the suspect, as well as that of the victim.
