New outbreak of bird flu in England

LONDON, November 12 (RIA Novosti) - A new outbreak of bird flu has been discovered at a turkey farm in the east of England, Britain's farm ministry said on Monday.

All 5,000 turkeys, geese and ducks on the farm are to be culled. A two-mile protection zone and a six-mile surveillance zone have been established around the farm at Diss, on the border between Norfolk and Suffolk.

It has not yet been established whether the virus is the deadly H5N1 strain, which has killed tens of people worldwide.

"Full confirmation of results, including whether or not this is H5N1 and whether the strain is high or low pathogenic will follow," the ministry announced.
