Tanker wreck causes fuel oil spill in southern Russia

MOSCOW, November 11 (RIA Novosti) - More than 1,000 metric tons of fuel oil have spilled into the Sea of Azov after a tanker broke apart during a storm in southern Russia, the Transport Ministry said on Sunday.

"At 04:45 a.m. Moscow time (01:45 a.m. GMT), the tanker Volga-Neft loaded with 4,000 metric tons of fuel oil broke apart during a storm to the south of the port of Kavkaz," the ministry said.

The 13-member crew was not hurt in the incident. Rescue operations are under way, the ministry said.
