NIZHNY NOVGOROD, November 4 (RIA Novosti) - GAZ [RTS: GAZA], a leading Russian automaker, said on Sunday it intended to launch the production of British Maxus light trucks in 2009.

GAZ, which exports cars to 35 countries, said its facility in Nizhny Novgorod in Russia's Volga area was expected to produce 50,000 Maxus vehicles a year.

GAZ said Maxus light trucks will be priced at $20,000 and more, depending on their configuration.

British Maxus vehicles are currently produced by the LDV plant in Birmingham, England.

GAZ acquired a 100% stake in LDV, a British van manufacturer, in July 2006. The shares were bought from Sun Capital, a U.S. fund. LDV, formerly Leyland DAF Vans Limited, produces about 15,000 vehicles a year.
