ISLAMABAD, November 1 (RIA Novosti) - Former Pakistani premier Benazir Bhutto flew to Dubai on Thursday to visit her family, after a turbulent two weeks in her home country following eight years of absence.

Farhatullah Babar, a member of Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party, said the former prime minister had travelled to the United Arab Emirates to "visit her sick mother and her children."

Bhutto earlier said she would postpone her trip as the Supreme Court was expected to pass judgment on whether the incumbent president, Gen. Musharraf, may run for a new presidential term. The opposition fears that if the court forbids Musharraf from running for a new presidential term, he could declare a state of emergency or impose martial law.

The Supreme Court later said hearings on the "Musharraf case" could be put off till November 12.

After arriving in Karachi on October 18, Bhutto was at the center of a major terrorist bombing that claimed 145 lives. The blast went off in the middle of a crowd surrounding her motorcade, but the ex-premier, riding in an armored truck, emerged unscathed.

Bhutto, who said she had received death threats prior to her return to Pakistan, is set to run in the parliamentary elections slated for January next year. She pledged to put an end to extremism, and to develop democracy in the country if she returns to power.

She served as Pakistan's prime minister on two separate occasions, but both her previous governments were brought down amid corruption allegations and she was forced to flee in 1999.
