TEL AVIV, October 17 (RIA Novosti) - An Israeli soldier was killed in a clash with Palestinian gunmen on Wednesday in southern Gaza, the Israeli Defense Ministry said.
The Israeli soldier was killed in an anti-terrorist operation after coming under fire from an anti-tank rocket, and later died in hospital.
Earlier on Wednesday, one Hamas gunman was killed and at least seven injured in Gaza following clashes with Israeli troops.
Those wounded include three Hamas members and four activists from the al-Quds Brigade, a military wing of the Islamic Jihad movement.
Israeli troops detained about 15 Palestinians suspected of being involved in terrorist activity. Palestinian media said over 20 armored vehicles were used in the operation.
