Russian women reserve three spots for Kremlin Cup semis

MOSCOW, October 12 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's top-seed and world No.2 Svetlana Kuznetsova advanced Friday to the semifinals of the 2007 Kremlin Cup, joining two compatriots.

Kuznetsova, runner-up at the 2007 U.S. Open, easily broke through to the next stage of the tournament in Moscow after defeating another Russian Vera Dushevina in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

Earlier in the day two other Russians, Yelena Dementyeva and Dinara Safina also secured places in the semifinals, and will play against each other.

Dementyeva defeated Viktoria Azarenko of Belarus in straight sets 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, while Safina defeated her compatriot Vera Zvonaryova in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

The fourth semifinalist, who will play against Kuznetsova, was decided in Thursday's match between Serena Williams of the United States and Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic. Williams won the match 6-4, 7-6 (9-7).

A total of $2,340,000 in prize money is up for grabs in the tournament held at the capital's Olimpiisky stadium.

The Kremlin Cup, held this year for the 18th time, is included in ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) tennis tournaments under the International Series category.
